HOW TO USE
Follow these step-by-step directions when using Coat-It ®:
For small quantities, mix 7 parts of Side A and 1 part of Side B by weight.
- Please read all directions before using. TEST SMALL AREA BEFORE USE.
- Use protective gloves to avoid getting Coat-It on skin. In case of contact with skin, use plenty of soap and water to remove epoxy.
- Clean and freshly sanded surfaces are essential to good bonding. Remove all contaminants such as oil, grease and paint. Sand until you have a clean surface. Steel and/or aluminum boats should be sanded or cleaned with Scotch Brite™, and treated with a marine phosphoric acid wash such as Naval Jelly or Aluminum Bright to remove any rust or oxidation. Tape off boat sides if necessary.
- Gouges and deep holes should be filled with SuperMEND® Epoxy Paste or fairing compound before applying Coat-It.
- May be applied to wet, dry or porous surfaces.
- Stir Side A of Coat-It resin until a uniform consistency occurs. Pour Side B into the oversized mixing bucket that contains Side A.
- Sufficient stirring and mixing is the most important step for satisfactory results with Coat-It. Mix with fold-into-center motion; mix entire contents thoroughly for 2-3 minutes. Occasionally scrape bottom and sides of mixing container as well as mixing stick. Mixed material should be used within 30 minutes.
- Following this mixing process, pour mixed material onto working surface as the mixed Coat-It can be extremely hot if left in the original mixing container.
- Application is usually done with a toothed trowel, squeegee, short bristle throw-a-way brush or foam roller.
- Adequate dry time is approximately 10-12 hours @ 70°F (21°C) (less than half the time of competitive brands). Cure time decreases with higher temperatures and increases with lower temperatures. Thick coats cure faster than thin coats. Single applications over 10 mils thick are not recommended.
- Clean tools with acetone or lacquer thinner.
